We're pleased to report that many families have returned to the village and the clinic and school have reopened. After careful consideration and consultation with our partners on the ground we have resumed disbursements in support of our key initiatives. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and adjust accordingly.
Dear Friends of Haiti,
Thank you for your unwavering support.
Due to the current violence and political instability in Haiti, Seeds of Hope for Haiti is pausing fund transfers until we can ensure their safe delivery.
Haiti is facing severe challenges with escalating gang violence and political unrest. Even Grand Boulage, though somewhat isolated, is affected, with armed gangs threatening access to essential resources, like food and clean water, and causing residents to flee, leading to the temporary closure of the school and clinic.
In light of these dangers, we've made the difficult decision to suspend fund transfers temporarily. However, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the people of Grand Boulage and Our Lady of Sorrows and the covenant we made with them almost 15 years ago. We stand in solidarity with them for the long haul.
We're working closely with our trusted partners – Outreach to Haiti and Medicines for Humanity – who have staff on the ground, to monitor the situation and will resume transfers when conditions improve.
Meanwhile, we're raising funds to ensure swift support for the school and clinic once it's safe to do so. We'll keep you updated on our progress and welcome any questions or concerns. Thank you for standing with us and the people of Grand Boulage during these challenging times.
Warm Regards, Seeds of Hope for Haiti
Our Guiding Principles:
To be in relationship with the people of Haiti; particularly the people of Grand Boulage
To nurture this ongoing relationship by making trips to Haiti several times a year
To strive together for strong communities and programs that are resilient and self-sustainable through 3 tangible actions:
Respecting (honoring the culture, norms and values of the community)
Education: Seeds of Hope for Haiti believes that education is an integral part of Haiti’s long-term sustainability and ability to prosper. We provide support to the school of Our Lady of Sorrows in Grand Boulage including salary subsidies for the primary and secondary school teachers, empowering them to educate over 420 students. In addition, we disbursed over $10,000 annually for the purchase of educational materials, books, and classroom supplies.
Healthcare: Access to primary medical care and clean water is a vital part of our mission in Grand Boulage. Partnering with Medical Aid to Haiti (MATH), we’ve established a mobile clinic which visits the village on a weekly basis. To date we’ve provided primary care consultations to over 2,000 individuals. Food: In addition to medical care, food is a critical need in Haiti. Having enough food is a struggle for many people. We initiated a canteen, offering school lunches to the children of the village serving 420 plus hot meals per day which for many is their only hot meal of the day. In addition to the canteen, we’ve also supported the annual Easter youth educational retreat and Feast day celebrations.
Emergency Relief: We provided emergency relief aid immediately after Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 to purchase seeds for farmers who had lost crops and livestock, and helped repair homes, roads and other badly damaged infrastructure.
Prayer Partners Through the connecting of prayer partners, the people of faith in Southbury, Connecticut are nurturing solidarity with people of faith in Grand Boulage, Haiti. These partnerships are forging personal relationships through the exchange of correspondence and photographs.
Sewing Program Through the generosity of a private donor, we were able to purchase sewing machines to launch a vocational sewing program; resulting in all new school uniforms being sewn by the villagers enrolled in the program.
94% of all proceeds go directly to programs
